How nepoznat.bg works
nepoznat.bg helps you find out who is calling from an unknown number before you answer or call back. The information comes from people who received the call and from official sources. Every report is one person's opinion, not a verified fact.
Where the data comes from
| Source | What we show |
|---|---|
| Reports from people who received the call | What the call was: category, type, checkboxes, channel. No names and no free text. |
| The national numbering plan of the Communications Regulation Commission (КРС) | The kind of number: mobile, landline (with the town), 0800, 0700, 090 or foreign. |
| Numbers that companies and public bodies publish themselves | "Official number", with a link to the source and the date it was checked. Legal entities only. All of them are listed under Official numbers. |
| Public warnings from authorities | Warnings about expensive call-backs and spoofed numbers. |
How we keep the count honest
- Every report passes a bot check (Cloudflare Turnstile), usually without you noticing.
- One person can't keep reporting the same number over and over. We use automated and manual checks against fake, repeated and coordinated reports.
- A report these checks catch is kept but not counted: it changes neither the count, the rating nor the ranking. We don't publish the rules in detail or say which one caught a report, so as not to help anyone game them.
- We show a rating only once there are at least 3 reports from different people. "High risk" needs more reports, sent independently of each other.
- We don't store IP addresses in plain form, only one-way hashes under a key we rotate and delete on schedule (details in Privacy). Reports expire after 24 months.
How the rating is worked out
| Rating | When we show it |
|---|---|
| High risk | Several people, independently of each other, say "Phishing" (they asked for money, codes or data), and those reports are a substantial share of all reports. |
| Be careful | "Phishing" reports from different people that are not enough for "High risk", or at least half of the reports say "Spam". |
| Looks genuine | Most reports say "Genuine call", and there are no "Phishing" reports from different people. |
| Marketing call | Most often people say "Marketing", fewer than half of the reports say "Spam", and there are no "Phishing" reports from different people. |
| Mixed reports | None of the above. |
The rating is a statistic of the reports. We don't check reports against call records and we make no claim about the owner of a number.
Colours: red for "High risk" and "Be careful"; green for "Looks genuine", "Marketing call" and a number with no reports; no colour while there are only a few reports or people disagree. Green is not a guarantee: scammers often call from new or spoofed numbers, so never give codes, card details or money over the phone.
How we rank "Most reported"
The list shows the numbers with the most reports in the last 7 days (or 30 days while the week is too quiet). A number is listed only if:
- it has enough reports from different people, and most of them say scam or nuisance;
- it is not the official number of a company or public body: scam reports on such a number almost always mean it was spoofed;
- nobody has asked for it to be removed, and moderation has not hidden or held it.
On top of that, a person who has looked at the reports approves every number on the list. Nobody can pay to get onto the list or off it. The list is refreshed every 2 minutes.
How we count checks
Every number page shows how many times the number has been checked since the site began, whether or not anyone reported it. A check is counted when a person opens the page: once per person per day. We don't count search engines, link previews in chat apps, browser prefetching or scripts that walk through many numbers. Checks and reports are separate figures: a check is not a report and never changes the rating. Once an owner's request to remove a number is upheld, the number is no longer counted.
What a report asks
Four choices: "Phishing", "Spam", "Marketing" and "Genuine call". We ask what the call was, not who made it: nobody can label a number as a debt collector, a bank or a company. Who is behind a number is shown only when the organisation published the number itself (Official numbers). The detail after the choice ("robot", "courier" and so on) and the checkboxes are optional.
How we order the buttons
The categories people report most often in the last 30 days come first. The order is updated once an hour, so the buttons don't move on every visit. We also record the position a category was picked from, to check that the order isn't steering the choice.
What we don't do
- We don't show people's names, and nobody can type them in.
- We don't allow free-text comments, so nobody can publish other people's personal data or insults.
- We don't ask for your contacts and we don't buy lists of numbers.
- We don't copy "scam number lists" from news, forums or other sites. Scammers often call from someone else's spoofed number, so such a list would name innocent people. A rating comes from reports only.
- We don't take payment to remove reports.
- We never show "High risk" for the official number of a company or public body. When it has scam reports, we warn about spoofing instead.
Who is responsible for the reports?
Each report is the opinion of the person who sent it, and that person is responsible for it. nepoznat.bg doesn't check reports in advance. It shows them only as statistics, with no names and no text, and only after several reports from different people. If something is wrong, the owner can ask for removal and anyone can send a complaint; we act within 48 hours. The details are in the terms of use.
Can someone write my name or accuse me by name?
No. There is no field for names or text: a report is a choice of category. A number's page never says who owns it.
If the number is yours
You can ask for removal. When you do, we hide the reports at once until a person reviews the request. The exception: if an earlier objection about the same number was not upheld in the last 90 days, the reports stay visible and the page shows that you dispute them, so a scammer cannot keep hiding their number. If we uphold the request, we erase the reports. Scammers often call from other people's numbers, so we take spoofing claims seriously. A person reviews every request within 48 hours and weighs your interest against protecting people from scams. We reply with the decision and the reasons. A phone number can be personal data even without a name, so data protection law applies and you have the rights set out in the privacy notice. We may ask you to show that the number is yours.
If you are a business or public body
You can claim your official number. Once checked, it shows as official, with a link to your website. People's reports stay visible.
Moderation
Automatic: the bot check, the limits and the hold on sudden floods of reports. By a person: removal requests, complaints about content, reviewing sudden floods and hiding reports that break the terms. For every decision on a request we send the reasons and a way to challenge it by replying to our email. If we learn of a threat to someone's life or safety, we inform the competent authorities.
